A downloadable game for Linux

Fork of https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=2596&autoplay=1#pp

About this fork

This version differs from the original project in a few key ways:

Just like other forks I submitted here, this fork adds mobile and touch friendly features to the game and is aimed at mobile phones.

I currently only provided packages for Postmarket Os, the APK files are actually Alpine linux packages and not android packages, the provided packages will not work on android. Fortunately the original developer created android packages, you can find them here: https://josefnpat.itch.io/vi8

If you want to play this game in a browser, with a gamepad and / or on a desktop I recommend you to use the original project instead (This fork is designed specifically for mobile devices and touch screens)

Useful tip:

The game includes a pull-down menu that can be accessed by swiping down anywhere on the screen, as long as you’re not touching the on-screen controls. This will reveal a menu sliding down from the top of the screen.

Most of the options are still a work in progress. However, the last option at the top lets you quickly close the game—just pull down until you reach it, then release.

The first option is intended to rotate the screen, but this feature is still under development and not fully functional yet.

Install instructions

Postmarket Os

To install on postmarketOS, download the APK and run:

sudo apk add ./vi8touch-0.1-r0.apk

Android support

The original developer provides Android packages on the official itch.io page:

https://josefnpat.itch.io/vi8

Please note that the files provided there are APK packages, but APK is not exclusively an Android format. The APKs distributed here are Alpine Linux packages, not Android applications, and they do not work on Android. They are intended for postmarketOS only.

Also be aware that the official Android mobile version released by the original developer uses different touch controls and likely a different engine (it is unclear whether it uses the original PICO-8 engine).
In contrast, the mobile port provided here behaves and looks differently: the touch controls are transparent and displayed over the game, and it includes a pull-down menu.

Playing this mobile touch version on Android

I do not use Android and do not plan to provide Android packages. However, it is still possible to play this version on Android with some manual setup.

How to play on Android

  1. Install LÖVE2D on your Android device

  2. Extract the LÖVE game files from the Alpine APK

3. Launch LÖVE2D and load the extracted game files
